What is the Mentorship Festival?

The Form Four Leavers Mentorship Festival and Talent Extravaganza is an immersive, year-long learning experience designed to guide Form Four graduates as they transition into the next chapter of their lives. This transformative festival empowers graduates by broadening their horizons beyond exam scores, helping them discover their passions, skills, and career aspirations through engaging activities and insightful discussions.

Throughout the festival, graduates actively explore a wide range of career paths, from traditional fields like medicine, law, and engineering to creative domains such as arts, media, performance, and digital content creation. This hands-on approach ensures that every participant finds a career path that resonates with their unique interests and talents.

  • The journey begins with pre-festival preparations, where graduates engage in self-awareness exercises and career goal-setting sessions. These activities equip them with the tools needed to maximise their experience at the festival summit.

  • The Festival Summit, held during the mid-terms of the first term (this year, the summit is taking place from February 25-27, 2025, at the University of Nairobi), features mentorship workshops, career talks, and talent showcases. This high-energy event marks a significant transition for graduates as they step into adulthood.

  • Following the summit, participants continue their journey through specialised post-summit programs that offer tailored mentorship based on specific career paths. For instance, those interested in medical careers receive focused guidance on specialisations such as surgery or nursing.

In addition to these core activities, the festival fosters collaboration with teachers, engages parents for support, and builds partnerships within the community to create a robust network for graduates. Together, these elements provide a holistic approach to mentorship that empowers young adults to confidently navigate their future with clarity and purpose.

MEET THE ORGANISERS

With extensive experience in educational mentorship, The Africa Centre for Technology Transfer, ACTT Digital Media is a Kenyan company that provides dynamic communication solutions. We have a longstanding tradition of collaborating with schools across Kenya, producing documentaries and school magazines, and covering key events like prize-giving ceremonies and cultural weeks.

In our work, we have consistently uncovered remarkable talents among students—recognising those talents die out after school—and have made it our mission to address critical gaps in student support. First, we successfully organised two impactful regional mentorship workshops for Form Four leavers. These workshops provide vital life and career guidance from professionals in traditional fields such as engineering, law, medicine, and education. However, we identified a significant gap: the lack of mentors who excel in talent-driven fields. As a result, students with artistic and creative aspirations often miss out on the unique guidance they need.

To bridge this gap, we worked together with many principals, teachers, parents, and even students to fully develop the concept and structure of the Form Four Leavers Mentorship Festival and Talent Extravaganza.

Gaps to be addressed by the Mentorship Festival

The mentorship is an open platform that seeks to address the following gaps that have been identified as critical in building stronger, more confident students and future workers.

1. Lack of support for talent-based careers:

Many existing mentorship programs focus primarily on conventional careers, often overlooking students who excel in creative fields such as arts, sports, and digital media. The festival provides tailored mentorship opportunities for students pursuing both traditional and creative careers, ensuring that every talent is recognised and nurtured.

2. Fragmented mentorship programmes:

Effective mentorship is an ongoing process. To facilitate this, we structure the festival as a year-long program that includes pre-event preparations and post-event follow-ups. This approach ensures students receive continuous support as they navigate their career paths.

3. Limited Involvement of Parents and Teachers:

For mentorship to be truly effective, it is essential to engage students’ full support networks, including parents and teachers. The festival actively encourages participation from schools and families to create a strong mentorship ecosystem that benefits all involved.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

ACTT Media has been at the forefront of educational mentorship in Kenya for the past seven years. We have organised successful mentorship workshops, produced school documentaries, and covered key school events like cultural days and prize-giving ceremonies.

  • Continuous Mentorship: Mentees receive ongoing guidance and support, helping them navigate career paths and personal development.

  • Valuable Insights: Mentees, teachers, and parents gain critical insights from industry professionals on cross-cutting issues, improving overall student outcomes, and providing resources to ease their journey.

  • Visibility Opportunities: Educators, partners, and service providers can highlight their programs, products, and services while students showcase their talents on a national platform, unlocking new opportunities.

  • The Village Benefits: The wider community shares knowledge and resources, empowering Kenyan youth toward a brighter future.

What's in the groups?

For the Students

  • Career Guidance: Professional mentorship will help students balance their exam results with practical career options.

  • Talent Recognition: Students will have a platform to showcase their creativity, gaining recognition and potential career opportunities.

  • Career-path Support: Students will benefit from continuous mentorship designed for their specific career paths, building knowledge and networks that will sustain them throughout their careers.

For our partners.

  • Reinforce Student Success: Help students transition smoothly from school by providing them access to structured mentorship and guidance based on what you have.

  • Empower creative talents and vocational training:
The Kenyan shop-flour is made up of diligent workers who did not go to universities. Furthermore, more than 70% of the Form 4 cohort does not attend university education. Bringing more support and resources into the majority will have the biggest impact in the Kenyan workplace.

  • Strengthen the Educational Community: Schools sharing insights and successes with peers, Parents-teacher engagement flourishing, and educators and other solution providers connecting under a common purpose.

We look forward to working together to make this a life-changing experience for students across Kenya.
